The "Selene" collection is inspired by the Nyamwezi, a tribe from western Tanzania whose name means "people of the moon." This connection to the moon reflects the ancient lunar worship traditions of the Nyamwezi, the second-largest ethnic group in Tanzania after the Sukuma.
The Nyamwezi settled in central-western Tanzania in the 17th century, and by the 19th century, the tribe was organized into several kingdoms, including Unyanyembe, Ulyankhulu, and Urambo. The choice of the name "Selene" for this side table is meaningful; it reflects both the Nyamwezi’s cultural heritage and the symbolism of the moon, inspiring a line that evokes spirituality and tradition.
I had the privilege of meeting the Nyamwezi people during a journey through Tanzania, and it was a true gift to establish a connection with them. Their culture, rich in ancient traditions and deeply connected to the moon, was a genuine source of inspiration. This encounter enriched my experience and gave the "Selene" collection an even deeper meaning, honoring their heritage and their worldview.
